The problem solvers are those whose lives are powered by faith and optimism; the problem people are those whose lives are drained by doubts and pessimism."
Memory Awakens Hope . . . . . . Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Seek That Which Is Above,1986
"Advent is concerned with that very connection between memory and hope which is so necessary to man. Advent’s intention is to awaken the most profound and basic emotional memory within us, namely, the memory of the God who became a child. This is a healing memory; it brings hope. The purpose of the Church’s year is continually to rehearse her great history of memories, to awaken the heart’s memory so that it can discern the star of hope.… It is the beautiful task of Advent to awaken in all of us memories of goodness and thus to open doors of hope."

"…Each person has what it takes to live a creative life. A person can lose ‘what it takes’ or enter the world handicapped almost to the point of extinction but the general principle still stands.
At times we may lose contact with the resources of creativity by living too long near the surface of life. In that case we need a way to move beneath the surface and to re-establish contact with our personal center and with resources for growth that are beyond those of the individual."

One of the freedoms that the gospel gives to us is a belief in our worth as persons, a belief in what we can do as persons, a belief in what we can be."

A core desire is not just a wish, a dream or a hope. It isn’t that New Year’s Day resolution that lasts only a day or a week. It’s a powerful, deep want."
Your Neighborhood? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Fr. Brian Cavanaugh, TOR
A real estate agent was showing a client different properties located in various sections of the town. "Each neighborhood is distinct," she explained. "In one it’s said that most residents do not know what is happening; another neighborhood is known to watch whatever is happening; across town there’s a neighborhood where the residents wish things would happen; then there’s a section where the people always hinder anything from happening, and, finally, there’s a small neighborhood with residents who seem to find a way to make things happen."
Turning to the couple, the broker asked which neighborhood they would feel most comfortable living in? How about you? Where are you most comfortable? Are you ready for a move?
Let Light Shine Through . . . . . . . . Sower’s Seeds That Nurture Family Values, # 42
Once there was an inquisitive nine-year-old girl intently listening to the Sunday Gospel from Matthew 5:13: "You are the light of the world.…your light must shine before others…" The passage really caught her attention.
The preacher talked in his sermon about the light driving out darkness; about letting our light shine before others so that we, too, can drive out the darkness and gloom around us. The preacher then proposed this question, "And how will you be a light to the world?"
The young girl’s imagination clicked into gear as she thought about being a light. Her thoughts rambled until she looked at the brightly colored patterns of light shining across the pews. She leaned closer to her father and whispered, "Daddy, I want to be like a stained-glass window and let the light shine through me spreading pretty colors."
Jesus said, "In the same way, your light must shine before others so that they may see goodness in your acts and give praise to your heavenly father" (Mt. 5:16).
