Often we are like the young woman who wanted to point her life in a new direction. She went into a church, took paper and pen, and proceeded to write down a long list of things she was going to do to change her life. She signed the paper, placed it on the altar and then sat down to wait for God’s approval.
After a time, the voice of God spoke to her inner heart: "You are going about this all wrong. Tear up what you have written."
Reluctantly, the young woman followed God’s instruction. Then she heard the voice of God speak to her listening heart, "Take a blank sheet of paper and sign your name to it at the bottom. Place it on the altar and I’ll fill it in."

John F. Kennedy often closed his speeches with the story of Colonel Davenport , the Speaker of the House of Representatives in Connecticut: On May 19th in the 1780 the skies over Hartford darkened ominously, and some of the representative, glancing out the windows, feared the end time were at hand. Quelling a clamor for immediate adjournment, Davenport rose and said, "The Day of Judgment is either approaching, or its is not. If it is not, there is no cause for adjournment. If it is, I choose to be found doing my duty. Therefore, I wish that candles be brought."
Rather than fearing what is to come, we are to keep the watch till Christ returns. Instead of fearing the dark, we are to be sparks of light, watching and waiting.
