This New Day . . . . . . . . . Anonymous

"Lord, I thank you for the blessing of this new day. May I use it to reflect your presence in all my thoughts, words and action, so that these hours might end with the world a bit better and someone’s life a bit happier because of my efforts."

Dreams . . . . . . . . .  Henry Viscardi

"Blessed are they who dream dreams and are willing to pay the price to turn dreams into reality."

Open to New Ideas . . . . . . . . .  Dr. Albert Einstein

"The more I have studied physics, the more I realize I do not know. To me, the real lesson of my whole life was that the more I know, the more challenged I am to know, and the wider my mind is open to new ideas and new concepts."

The Writer Writes . . . . . . . . .  Alfred Kazin

"In a very real sense, the writer writes in order to teach himself, to understand himself, to satisfy himself."

Words of Wisdom  . . . . . . . . . Abraham Lincoln

"You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they should do for themselves."

On Reading . . . . . . . . .  Benjamin Franklin

"Reading makes a full man;
meditation, a profound man;
discourse, a clear man."

No Stone Unturned  . . . . . . . . . Dr. Harold B. Walker, Insight

"We all know that one of the most depressing of life’s experiences is regret. ‘Hell,’ somebody wrote, ‘is the specter of our wasted opportunities.’ Hell is the memory of ‘the little more’ we did not give or the stone we did not turn. We failed here or there not because failure was written in our stars but, rather, because we did not demand enough of ourselves."

Hard Work . . . . . . . . .  Stephen King

"Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work."

Our Pilgrimage . . . . . . . . .  Sallie M. Te Selle

"We all love a good story because in a sense any story is about ourselves, and a good story is good precisely because somehow it rings true to human life.…We recognize our pilgrimage from here to there in a good story."

The Wooden Creed  . . . . . . . . . John Wooden, They Call Me Coach

"Given to John by his father for graduation from grade school in Centerton, IN.

"The Wooden Creed" "They Call Me Coach"1. Be true to yourself.
2. Make each day your masterpiece.
3. Help others.
4. Drink deeply from good books, especially the Bible.
5. Make friendship a fine art.
6. Build a shelter against a rainy day.
7. Pray for guidance, count and give thanks for your blessings every day."

Ripples of Hope  . . . . . . . . . Robert F. Kennedy

"Some believe there is nothing one man or one woman can do against the enormous array of the world’s ills. Yet many of the world’s great movements, of thought and action, have flowed from the work of a single person.…

"These people moved the world, and so can we all. Few will have the greatness to bend history itself, but each person can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation.

"It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a person stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance."

Don’t Be Distracted  . . . . . . . . . James F. Colaianni

"Don’t let yourself be distracted from the thing that is most important for your life-enrichment. Don’t be distracted by the need for other people’s approval. Don’t be distracted by the need for security you think will come from money. Don’t allow anything to distract you from working out your free and honest faith response to God’s call. It is only through this response that you will be able to find the Power of God released in you. It is only through this response that you will be able to find your way into wholeness of life. It is only through this response that you will be able to go out into the world of holocaust and make a difference."

Secret of Winning  . . . . . . . . . Dr. Denis Waitley

"Success in life is not reserved for the talented, and it’s not in the high I.Q., nor in the gift at birth. It’s not always in ability, or in the best equipment. Success is almost totally dependent upon drive and persistence — the extra energy required to make another effort, to try another approach, to take a new tack. This is the secret of winning."

Five Points for Speech Making . . . . . Winston Churchill

1. Begin strong; no jokes.
2. Have one central theme.
3. Use simple words.
4. Develop mental images for the audience.
5. Close with an emotional ending.

Parable of Church Workers  . . . . . . . . . Bible Illustrator

Fred Somebody, Thomas Everybody, Peter Anybody and Joe Nobody were neighbors, but they were not like you, I’m sure. They were odd people and most difficult to understand. The way they lived was a shame.

All four belonged to the same church, but you would not have enjoyed worshipping with them. Everybody went fishing on Sunday, or stayed home to visit with friends. Anybody wanted to worship but was afraid Somebody wouldn’t speak to him. So guess who went to church — yep — Nobody.

Really, Nobody was the only decent one of the lot. Nobody did parish visitations. Nobody worked on the church’s committees. In fact, Nobody contributed financially each week.

Once they needed a Sunday school teacher. Everybody thought Anybody would do it, while Anybody thought Somebody would do it. And guess who actually did it? That’s right — Nobody!

Bless all who serve You throughout the World.

We pray this in the name of Jesus, Your Son, Our Lord who gives all things freely according to our needs.
